I am about to have my 20 week ultrasound (even though I am 21 weeks, but that is apparently irrelevant), and the inevitable question has now come up – do we find out the gender of the baby, or do we wait until the end for the big surprise?

With my first pregnancy we did not find out, and it was really fantastic to discover at the end of the hard labour that we had a little boy.  There are so many pros and cons to finding out the gender, this time around I am swaying towards finding out.  My husband, however, is not swaying.  Not at all.  Not even a little bit.

We now have the problem that should one find out and not the other?  Can I really keep a secret for another 4 months?  Can I not tell anyone else the gender even if I do find out, just because my husband doesn’t know?  It’s all too much!

So as much as I would like to know if our next little one will be a little brother or a little sister so I can at least narrow down the name selections and perhaps buy some pretty little girls clothes (it that is what it turned out to be), I have decided to play the waiting game with my hubby and wait for that big day to find out if we are having a Jasmine or a Patrick.  Or a Remy or a Walter.  Or an Allison or a Bruce…better get that baby name book out again.
